Behind Headlines — Paris

REF. 001 / MANIFESTO

Manifesto

I.

The fascination

Behind Headlines was born from a fascination: tracking down the original press prints that lie sleeping on flea-market stalls, in antique dealers' reserves, or at auction-house turns. A pursuit that, over time, became a passion, then an obsession.

II.

The object

At a time when images dematerialize and vanish into an endless stream, we defend the photographic object. The paper, the texture, the marks of time, the fragility of a support that has survived the decades: every print carries a story that no screen can fully render. These photographs once told the story of the world. Made by photojournalists often forgotten today, they carry fragments of history, gazes, lives, and moments that will never return.

III.

The quest

We travel across Europe in search of these fragile witnesses to the past. Flea markets, private collections, auction sales: every discovery is a piece to preserve, to pass on, and to look at again. Founded by Romain Dumont, who holds a master's degree in art history from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Behind Headlines regards every print as a photograph, a historical document, and a material trace of its era.

IV.

The ambition

Our ambition is simple: to preserve these images before they disappear, and to restore to them the place they deserve in the eyes of those who contemplate them. For yes, oblivion awaits them.

For yes,
oblivion awaits them.
